Sustainable food-wrapping with beeswax Summer Workshop at Ecophysis

If you pack your kids' lunch every day it might feel like you're always adding cling wrap to your grocery list and throwing used plastic baggies in the trash. Disposable packaging definitely offers convenience, but it's not the most environmentally friendly option. Enter beeswax wraps: The pliable covers fold up around foods and cover bowls of leftovers. Rinse clean with cold water and mild soap (hot H2O would melt the wax!) and you can reuse them time and time again.

Ecophysis event "Sustainable food-wrapping with beeswax" would like to get you and your children involved into this amazing natural way of food storage.

During the workshop "Sustainable food-wrapping with beeswax", visitors initially watch two short documentaries on life and importance of bees as well as the threats they face, and a brief discussion within the Educational Hall. In the same Hall, visitors can observe the bees working insight a glass hive; then visitors watch and participate in the whole process of manufacturing biodegradable food-wrapping in order to reduce waste from food storage materials. A description of the use of this product takes place and then we cut the clothes to the size we prefer and infuse it with a mixture of beeswax and other oils and natural ingredients. While we are waiting for the product to be ready, we visit the laboratory for the export of honey and other beekeeping products where a guided tour and practical use (where possible) of the machines takes place. Finally, visitors will try all batches of honey produced in the last year as well as other beekeeping or processing products such as natural beeswax ointments, soaps with honey and beeswax, etc.

Their event will introduce you to a different life style natural and economic. You will have fun, you will learn and find out many interesting things about bees and their natural products and most of all you will enjoy your time spend in the country side surrounded by the olive orchards and bees sounds...
