Go4it Cyprus - The first indoor Skate Park in Cyprus

Important information! Go4It skatepark will be closed as of  31st July 2016. We aim to re-open our new shop located at; 19 Enoseos Street, 3041, Limassol (Next to Katholiki Church) from 1st September 2016.

Hello everybody,

I love when people become pioneers in a field, fighting for their passions; they are ready to make others believe in their dream, they are ready to help others discover new life styles.
Kids of these days love challenges, adore to able to get involved in new, fun, challenging activities, and what is more challenging then flying on a skate board, or jumping on a BMX, that feeling of adrenaline, and the excitement of doing something that you thought you couldn't.

What is GO4IT? What is BMX? What is skateboarding? All these “new terms” will be introduced to
Kids Fun in Cyprus by Mr. Chris Giles a fun and passionate enthusiastic person, who has recently opened the first professionally designed indoor skate park in Cyprus – Limassol. Is it for kids? We are about to find out just now:

Izzy: Kids Fun in Cyprus is very happy to have the opportunity to let children across the island know, about the first skate park in Cyprus. But before doing this, we would like to find out more about the person who made this possible, Mr. Chris Giles. Who are you and how did you become so passionate about such sport activities?

C.G: I am originally from England and grew up with adventure sports. I was very energetic as a kid and was always out on my bike, building jumps and finding exciting and daring things to do.  Some of my favorite sports include Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Snowboarding, BMX and Rugby.
I studied sports through high school and College and qualified in Sports Management. Sports in general interests me, however the Challenge is much greater in these action sports than other sports and that drives you to become better and better.

Izzy: Why did you decided to open such a facility in Cyprus? Do you believe that you can make a life, working for a passion? Were you sure that this investment would pay your work and your time?

C.G:  After finishing studying I went on to work in Food & Beverage, but the long unsociable hours didn't leave much time for anything else. It was then I decided to make a big change in my life and move back into my field of study and to do the things that I am so passionate about.
Following my passion was emotionally challenging and pretty scary, but having the chance to share what I love with others and to watch them learn and enjoy the sports really gives me that sense of fulfillment.
Opening any business isn't easy, but if you have the right mindset and motivation anything is possible.

Izzy: For the beginners of these sports we would like to know what a skatepark is and what sports they can expect to get involved at your Skatepark. What special equipment a child needs to wear in order to practice these sports and where it can be found?

C.G: A skatepark is a purpose built area to participate in Skateboarding, BMX, Inline Skating and Roller Scooter. Skate parks come in many shapes and sizes; they can be indoor or outdoor and often include features that you would normally find in the street.
The equipment and cost of it depends on what sport you get into, but it's always wise to consult your local skate or BMX Shop to get the right equipment for you. The GO4IT Skatepark & Shop is open 6 days a week, so feel free to drop by for any advice or Equipment needs.

Izzy: What is the best age for a child to start learning skatepark related sports? Does GO4IT provide any kind of lessons and what do kids need to do participate? Are Cyprus children ready for a new sport?

C.G: There isn't a specific age for children to get involved, kids from a young age are always discovering and learning new things, it's a major part of growing up. GO4IT tries to work with kids ages 5 and above. We offer many options to get involved, including quick induction sessions, to beginner courses and Private lessons. Kids in general are open to new ideas and activities.

Izzy: GO4IT indoor skatepark is the first of its kind in Cyprus. What can you tell us about the safety aspects of the park? Is it dangerous for children to practice these sports?

C.G: Our skatepark, like the Majority of Skateparks across Europe follow European Standards. These standards help to ensure that Skateparks are constructed correctly and implement the right safety features to minimize risks.
Dangerous is a strong word, there are always risks involved in whatever you do, Skatepark related sports do present more risks than other sports, but with the correct coaching and Equipment these can be avoided.
At GO4IT we strongly advise everyone to wear a helmet and protection pads, we offer FREE safety equipment for anyone who wants to use our facility.

Izzy: Kids Fun in Cyprus loves to promote sports activity for kids and also for parents. What are the main health and brain benefits for those who choose to practice these sports?

C.G:  Skatepark Sports are physically demanding and offer a really great work out, there is a lot of skill involved too, so you have to focus and practice a lot.
These sports really help to develop balance, co-ordination, determination and self confidence.
Skateparks are also very social places, they offer somewhere to hang out, meet with friends and participate in something fun and active.

Izzy: Everybody loves challenge, we love to compete, to win or to lose, and this makes a part of our life. What is the outcome for practicing these sports? Are there any competitions in Cyprus? What age you should be in order to get involved?

C.G: These sports present you with something you might not normally do, they push boundaries and challenge you mentally and physically, but all this helps you to build your character, confidence and drive you to succeed.
Everyone is a winner in these sports, learning how to ride a skateboard or completing a difficult trick is already an achievement.
GO4IT is continually working to create new events and ideas to get more kids involved; there will be many competitions for Junior and Senior Athletes throughout 2015. Make sure you check our Facebook and Website for all upcoming events across Cyprus.

Izzy: Lots of parents are interested to find out about more fun and memorable places where to organize a birthday party that will always be remembered.  Go4it Skatepark is one of the places where the birthday becomes active, challenging ...unique. What can you tell us more about your offer?

C.G: We love to get groups of kids in for Birthdays and special events. We have many options to suit your needs, everything from a 1 hour session up to a full day of activities. Our venue is pretty big and there is plenty of space to sit, eat cake and drink lots of juice or coffee for the adults. All our group sessions are supervised by one of our instructors who will guide the group and make sure they are learning as well as having lots of fun.

Izzy: For the last question I gave you the opportunity to share with our readers a short story or thought about kids.

C.G: Growing up I had a lot of chances to try and experience different things. Some stuff was boring; some stuff was fun, I learnt things that I would never use again in my life, I’ve fallen down, rolled in mud and even got lost in London, but all these experiences good or bad have helped to shape the person I am today.

Experience is a tool that anyone can use to help them make decisions and choices in their future.

"I continue to believe that if children are given the necessary tools to succeed, they will succeed beyond their wildest dreams!" David Vitter, U.S. senator.

Lots of sunny days from Izzy the Cypriot Lizard!
